Chamonix is one of the few contenders with a serious chance for the title of 'World's Most Famous Ski Resort'. The resort also has the world's biggest lift-served skiable vertical drop of around 2800 metres and also one of the world's longest runs through the Valee Blanche at 22km long.
Chamonix Mont Blanc itself is a very lively town with some amazing views, Mont Blanc has the highest peak in Western Europe. There is plenty of accomodation in the area and many scattered nearby. There is an approximate of 64,000 beds in the slopeside accomodations and an additional 90 hotels nearby.
There are 88 restaurants (8 mountain restaurants) with cuisines ranging from Chinese, Mexican and French and many more. Definitely a great place to shop with over 250 shops and several banks and post offices. There is also child care services which are available for children aged 6 months to 12 years old. The ski school itself offers lessons for ages as young as 4 years to adults.
