Area Profile

Alpe d'Huez is one of the world's major ski centres, the resort itself is one of Europe's highest and largest. It's biggest vertical drop is 2230 metres. This resort is not only for die hard skiers and enthusiasts, it is now so big and vibrant that there are far more things to do, including shopping!

The resort benefits of two large beginner areas which are located directly above the resort. When going on the lifts on a clear day it is possible to see a fifth of France from the top station. There is approximately 800 snow cannons which allows there to be a huge amount of skiable terrain at all times.

There is an approximate of 96 hectares of skiable terrain at any one time and the snow cannons also produce a further 9 hectares. The longest run is 16km giving ski enthusiasts something to test their abilities, with a good percentage of it's runs being for advanced and expert skiers.

There is plenty of places to stay with around 30,000 beds in the slopeside accommodations. There is also around 18 additional hotels which are located nearby. There are more than a dozen mountain restaurants and more located nearby which range from French, Italian and American. There are 5 banks, a post office, around 300 shops and a few petrol stations and launderettes. There are also many child care services available for children between the ages of 3 and 11 and also two ski schools who offer lessons for ages 3 and a half years to adults.
