Czechs beat Scots in opening game
19 Mar 2011

Anna Kubeskova's Czech Republic celebrated her first-ever World Championship game with a 6-5 win over Scotland's Anna Sloan.

An unfortunate pick-up for Scotland in the eighth end gave the Czechs a steal of two and a 6-1 lead. The Scots replied with three in the ninth and were denied by an umpire's measure on the second in the tenth that may have forced an extra end.

"These things happen" said Sloan. "You've just got to keep going." Defending champion Andrea Schöpp and her German team beat Switzerland's Mirjam Ott by 10-7 in their second round-robin game, having earlier beaten the hosts, Denmark. Norway's Linn Githmark has also won her first two encounters on the Esbjerg ice.
